Unless you are a veteran motorcycle aficionado, you might wonder what could possibly be new in motorcycle helmet arena. They are lighter? Stronger? Safer? Well, sure. But what we really have is smarter helmets. Helmet brands have become more intuitive about user needs. Every once in a while they add some phenomenal perk to their lids and motorcycle riders wonder how they lived without it all this while. Helmets have surely come a long way since Dr. Eric Gardner’s canvas contraption that saved many lives in Isle of Man TT races. From wind tunnel testing for more aerodynamic shapes to figures on the visor, there are many hurdles that helmet evolution seems to have overcome.
Let’s take a look at some of the latest trends in helmets.

1. Bluetooth helmets:
It wasn’t long ago that folks were going hands-free on phones. Bluetooth has finally spread its network over helmets as well. Helmet with integrated Bluetooth is marketed by reputed firms like BILT and HJC.
You can make or answer calls with a single press of multifunctional buttons. You can have GPS directions read to you or listen to music from MP3 players wire-free. Not just that, these helmets are streamlined to cut out wind noise and buffeting.
These communication systems are effective enough to make the person on the other end of the call wonder whether you are calling on the fly or directly from phone.
The better part of an invention is to see that the invention works well and consistently over time. Bluetooth helmets have perfected that.
If you want the freedom of switching away from your office, you also have separate Bluetooth systems marketed by Sena. You can mount these Bluetooth headsets into the helmets and they will perform as well as integrated Bluetooth systems. Learn more at <Insert links to the best Bluetooth motorcycle helmets>
2. Modular helmets:
Modular helmets are lids that can convert between full-face helmets and half helmets. Versatile as they are, the chinbar of these helmets can be raised over your head to give you more breathing space. It’s a bit like a convertible car. Modular helmets allow you the flexibility of sporting half coverage when you are out in the breeze. Full face cover shields from daily traffic and the resulting hullaballoo. 3. Augmented Reality helmet:
Skully AR-1 is one of these. This helmet’s specs read like Steve Jobs’ resume’. It’s mind-blowing. AR-1 has a Head-Up Display (HUD) projected on to the visor. Real-time information is available at a glance. There’s an ultra-wide angle blindspot camera that pans the traffic behind you. Your speed, visual GPS navigation and live footage from a rear camera will be shown on your visor. You might feel like the Terminator with Skully AR-1 on. It can be connected to phone via Bluetooth and phone internet. With integrated Bluetooth functionality, Skully AR-1 truly sets the trends in helmets.
4. Helmet design:
Although still widely used, Polystyrene cannot claim the fame for safety in all the helmets. They have moved on to Kevlar and fiberglass. Yes, Kevlar, like in Counterstrike. Kevlar helmets are both lighter and much more resistant against penetration and crash impact. Players like Arai have reinvented their ventilation systems for keeping your head cooler than Alaska snow in the heat of Miami. With many of them acquiring the wind tunnel testing facility, there has been a drastic change in the design approach.
They perform better against wind noise and wind buffeting. Vozz has created another helmet that does not have a chinstrap. Instead it has a snap-on lid from the back which locks the helmet tight on your head. Because of this change, they have been able to create a more snug fit that eliminates all external disturbances and keeps the helmet super steady on your head.
5. Helmet accessories:
Apart from the Bluetooth headsets we mentioned earlier, we also have other noteworthy accessories. For example, the Pinlock insert to prevent fogging. Stick this insert on the visor of your lid and it will be fog-free. Just like that. Camera mounts are also being sold in a big way. They let you film a digital record of your wanderings. Pigtail accessories let you attach a couple of pigtails (You read right!) on either side of the helmet creating the perfect aura of femme fatale.
